Reconstruction of housing in Lviv after the war
In the first postwar five-year plan the number of urban number of urban population rapidly grew in Lviv: in 1945 there 180 thousand people lived, in 1950 - it increased by 70%, and in 1955 it exceeded 1945 by 2.2 times. This has highlighted the problem of housing.
If just after the war most people rebuilt the destroyed buildings and sometimes constructed a temporary wooden shelter for builders of industrial enterprises, whereas in 1950-1955 there were 56.3 thousand sq. m. of housing in new buildings and in the 1956-1959 period living area increased by 258.2 thousand. sq.m. Fifteen years after the war housing in the city has grown in 1.5 times.
Good example of the reconstruction is a house on the project M.Mikula in Svobody Avenue 1/3. The superstructure of the fourth floor in neutral forms because of the unity of rhythm and scale organically merged with one of the best city facades in the classical style. Inside adequate living conditions were made.
Our website can offer you Lviv apartments for rent or rent an apartment in the house next door on Liberty Avenue.
Design of new multi-storey buildings was carried out mainly on the individual projects according to the requirements of specific building sites. Great attention was paid to intersections of city streets. Corners of buildings were as a rule decorated with architecture plastic and expressive elements of the coronary. Four-storey house at the intersection of Konovaltsia and Cherniakhovskogo Streets is decorated with triangular pediment of obelisks (architect V. Sagaydakivsky). Expressive plastic facades are formed by balconies and rhythm of arched slits of built-in grocery store.
There is interesting architectural decision in house in the intersection of Gorodotska and Y.Mudryi Streets which is expressed in offset of two volumes (architect Y.Nazarkevych).
Construction in the centre of the city was held with great responsibility. There scale and nature of the surrounding buildings were considered. All these requirements are met by a six-storey apartment house in the street Gnatiuka 3 (architect M.Mikula).
We can offer rent an apartment in this house, center of the city. It is located near Museum of Ethnography and Crafts. There are two shops on the first floor. Architecture of house has similar features with museum building. Thouse fits into the development of the street which was formed in ХIХ - beginning of ХХ century.
In the mid-1950s few-storey houses got the popularity. There were contests on houses projects. Best traditions of estate development of the city the first half of the twentieth century were used. In the areas like New Lviv, Professorial colony and others. Experienced architects and creative young people with a great desire responded to the call to participate in the building of a socialist city.
The best area of estate development is Oktiabrskyi Village (Levandovka). Its designers are G.Shvetsko-Vynetskyi, M.Venzelovich, L.Timchenko (1958). They used the best contest projects. Semi-detached houses with separate entrances dominated. Apartments with kitchens, bathrooms, living room on the ground floor and bedroom with bath on the second were popular. It is a pity that as a result of poor maintenance, violating the principle of apartment settlement, lack of quality construction, most of these structures lost prehistoric architectural appearance.
The village consists of rectangular blocks where houses are grouped by typological characteristics. In 1956 park was built. It combined regular and landscape planning, has picturesque corners of artfully combined weeping, pyramidal, spherical forms of trees and shrubs.
