The historical moment of Lviv in the nineteenth century

After the first partition of Poland, Lviv was captured by the Austrian Empire. At that time the city became the center of a large province, which includes the lands of Eastern and Western Galicia.

Galicia was limited internal autonomy, so in Lviv becomes effective local electoral Diet and the central agencies of numerous boundary organizations and societies, branches of foreign banks and offices of the city. Railway building in Lviv has made an important transport hub of Western Ukraine, which was connected through Krakow and Vienna to Western Europe, through Chernivtsi to the Balkans, throught Carpathians to the Hungary, through Ternopil and Brody to Russia. At that time Lviv was the fourth city in Ukraine by population after Odessa, Kiev and Kharkov.

The emergence of permanent and amateur theaters, libraries, museums, educational organizations, comprising Polish and Ukrainian scientists and artists, publishing scientific papers and works of fiction eloquently about turning Lviv in one of the most important cultural centers of the capitalist epoch in Ukrainian lands.

Beginning of the next century also affected the recovery of construction. On the architecture of the city Lviv greatly influence by Viennese School, particularly its leading masters. That is why Lviv often resembles a small tour to Vienna.

By the way, the architecture is not all that unites this two cities. After all, you can try a coffe in Lviv - is not worse then Austrian!
