Museum of the Religion History, Lviv

Lviv Museum of the Religion History it is a cultural institution, which collected unique materials covering the history of world and national religions of church organizations.

The exposition of the museum is located in the building of the Dominican monastery. This church was built by the Austrian engineer Jan De Witte of the best examples of baroque architecture of the city.

The museum has three branches: Chervonohrad branch, exposition "Man. Land. Universe" and the Institute of Religious Studies. Also there was created a museum of Jewish Studies. The museum exhibition consists of sections: "Religions of the Ancient World", "Judaism", "Early Christianity," "The Armenian Church," "History of the Roman Catholic Church," "The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church", "Orthodoxy in Ukraine", "Protestantism", "Islam", "Buddhism". The museum consists of divisions: exhibition, scientific, educational, promotional, methodical, foundations, publishers of "Logos", library, photo and
holographic laboratory, scientific and restoration, art, bio-bibliography. In the fund you can see a large collection of icons and Bibles (including the Ostrog Bible that was published in 1581 in Paris).

The museum holds an annual international scientific conference "History of Religions in Ukraine". Stock museum collections contain a large number of objects of material and spiritual culture, which relate to the development, creation and establishment of religion, churches, religious and secular organizations, religious and churchleaders, non-traditional religions.

The pride of the museum's collection is a collection of icons, sculptures and professional craftsmen, archaeological materials about Ukrainian culture, ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and unique monuments of the village burial Haritonovka on Ternopil region. From burial museum contains a fragment covers sword sheath with human and animal figures, which allow scientists to explore the cosmogonic view.

Among the museum's collection of ancient books you can see a manuscripts Thor XV - XIX centuries, Muslim theological texts and the publication of the Bible in Latin, French, German, Greek, Chinese and other languages. The museum has a large collection of Buddhist monuments and ritual objects of silver liturgical sewing.

Museum collections are constantly updated materials on the current status of religious organizations, church leaders, inter-church relations, the emergence and spread in Ukraine, new religious movements.
